The Royal Beacon Hotel

Exmouth is Devon's oldest seaside resort and this was reflected by the construction of several prominent hotels such as our lovely venue, The Royal Beacon Hotel. Built in 1810 at the end of the very fashionable Beacon Terrace. Beginning its life as Marine Hotel, no doubt due to its amazing views over the sea and estuary. It became the Beacon Hotel soon afterwards.
The Royal connection comes from a visit by the King of Saxony in 1844. The terrace is earlier with its beginnings in 1791. In days of old, a beacon fire was lit on the headland to alert the countryside to threats of raids and possible invasion. The terrace became a very popular place to live for wealthy members of Georgian society who had settled in Exmouth such as Lady Nelson and Lady Byron.
Comfortable rooms, lovely breakfasts, friendly staff and great views in a brilliant location. Painters will be located in the light and airy ballroom with its high windows that let in plenty of natural daylight. We also have a small stage and dancefloor area. Tables will be provided as well as chairs. We ask that all painters bring the following items to ensure our venue is well protected:
Cheap simple plastic tablecloths are ideal and can be purchased at very minimal cost. A local shop in the town center supplies them for just £1 for two so there should be no excuses. We also ask that if staying on site, you respect the rooms and leave baths/showers/bedrooms 100% free of paint/glitter residue. It is so important to us that a wonderful local hotel has agreed to host this event and we want to ensure good relations going forwards.
All in all, we hope you have a lovely chilled out couple of days with us here in Devon, creating magnificent artworks that challenge the locals perceptions of what bodyart is.
Double rooms at the Royal Beacon start from £59 including breakfast, please quote 'ART' when booking for 18th/19th November. This also ensures that we can benefit from the rooms adjacent to the ballroom for convenience.
